Joeten Kiyu Public Library’s Summer Ukulele Class, which began on July 2, concluded last Wednesday, Aug. 20. A total of 20 students enrolled in the eight-hour Beginner Ukulele Class, which was held every Wednesday from 3:30pm to 4:30pm. Students learned parts of the ukulele, basic ukulele keys, and proper way of strumming, etc. They also learned keys to play songs from classic to reggae to local music such as Happy Birthday, Pearly Shells, I’m Yours, Surfin’ USA, and Hafa Adai, to name a few. Students enrolled in the Intermediate Class learned how to play much more complex keys to songs such as Kiss the Girl and Sweet Child of Mine, plus more.

Ukulele classes are held at Joeten-Kiyu Public Library in partnership with ukulele instructor Larry Lee. The next ukulele session will be in September. If you are interested on enrolling on our next cycle, call Celina or Erlinda at 235-7315 / 7316 / 7322 during regular library hours. (JKPL)
