NMC offers Wood Working Workshop
As part of its Workforce Development and Apprenticeship Program, the Northern Marianas College Community Development Institute (CDI) is offering a Hands On Training (HOT) Wood Working Workshop. This workshop is designed to provide students hands-on experience and knowledge of fundamental construction principles.
The workshop will enable students to demonstrate basic safety practices and appropriate communication pertaining to carpentry, recognize and be able to use construction tools, understand basic rules of construction safety; apply safety skills when using hand and power tools; estimate carpentry projects (required materials and cut list for small projects); demonstrate the ability to work on and complete small carpentry projects; solve mathematical problems related to carpentry; and exhibit good work ethics.
All instruction will be provided at the Northern Marianas College campus in As-Terlaje.
The workshop is for community members who are US citizens, and or green card holders; space in the class is limited so enrollment will be on a first come-first served basis.
To sign up for the workshop, please download a registration form at marianas.edu, contact Eileen Babauta by calling 237-6764, email wdp@marianas.edu or visit the CDI office in NMC’s Building P.
The deadline to register is Friday, Aug. 22, 2014 for Saipan, Aug. 28, 2014 for Tinian, and Sept. 4, 2014 for Rota.
“The hands-on workshop offers students a great opportunity to develop their carpentry and construction skills,” said NMC Dean of Administration and Resource Development David Attao. “We hope that eligible community members take advantage of the HOT Workshop and share the information with their friends and family who may benefit from it.”
The Hands On Training (HOT) workshops are part of the Northern Marianas College’s comprehensive efforts to fill workforce needs. (NMC)
