Heard of dumb things?
There’s a whole bag of peeves since 40-plus years ago. Some are good fodder for comedy, others about stupidity, lunacy, humiliation, joy, and summertime blues. I’m sure you also have tons of it. Share it with us just to pass time in this very disorienting time. What’s north?
At a meeting with a huge and powerful global conglomerate in SK a local junior legislator braved explaining to the board chairman business principles. I mean the SOB may be suffering from chronic diarrhea of the mouth and a flushed cranium but need he display ignorance and stupidity? The man we’re facing made $36 billion in one component of his global business. Dumb!

In DC we tried justifying our existence before a budget subcommittee. We though we did a superb job until the chairman asked why use Palo Alto, California, for salary comparable where the lowest annual income was about $100K?
We forgot that there’s Guam where wages and salaries are still higher than ours. At least we could use the benefit of geographical proximity to slip by. Hence, we learned to review and read our materials before U.S. Congressional Hearings. Dumb!

In 1993, we proudly told the U.S. Congress to cease all appropriations dealing with operations expenditure of the local government. I mean we were averaging annual revenues of over $256 million.
That has taken a nosedive down to $135 million per year and I’m wondering if we didn’t speak a bit prematurely? Is someone tiptoeing to DC to beg for money? It must be the use of “shoot first, ask questions later” syndrome. Dumb!

The Antiquities Act is the sole exclusive purview of any U.S. president. His use of it on pertinent issues is a decision you can’t litigate. Like a veto, when it’s done, it’s done! Go back to playing marbles!
This is where the NMI needs a delegate with intellectual acuity and academic competency. The status quo is a good way to cheer ourselves into self-denial that we’ve royally screwed ourselves.
Must send in the heavyweights like former Speaker Oscar Rasa, former Lt. Gov. Jesse Borja, former Chief Justice Jose Dela Cruz, former Justice Ed Manibusan, and others similarly situated.

We tell the feds it must use Tinian as a “divert airfield”. It won’t be long before the feds would be telling us “step aside, this is national security issue, what is it in the statement that you don’t understand?” Ooops! Sorry, ah?

We declare unto ourselves our rights to sea and seabed resources. It’s good punditry for headlines and feel good venting. At day’s end, we never even research the truth to our assertion. Could you look closer at Covenant Section 101 and the Magnuson-Stevens Act? Need we conjugate purposeful ignorance in this instance?

Watched a television program promoting the use of the Chamorro Language purportedly for cultural revival. But the explanation was ALL in English. Delusional. Eh, right hand no can tell if da kine left hand is working simultaneously. Pot fabot!

The chartered NMD bunch has honed the specialty of speaking from both sides of their mouths. Have they had their feet measured to see if they still fit their mouths? Talk about humiliating disorientation!

A friend suggested I should employ diplomacy in my writing on any and all issues. Well, I could be tactful and linguistically respectful but not ready to sink into hypocrisy or sanctimonious diplomacy. I tell it like it is, pal, come hell or high water! Truth and integrity matters though mindfulness could help. Did I dumb you?
•••
It was a hard beginning scribbling my views that started in the early seventies. The fabricated culture of submission was still strong where social norm expects your keeping your views to yourself. Well, I wasn’t ready for any of it and not when our folks were only trying to avoid unsolicited cultural genocide from colonial powers. To follow a fabricated culture would have been the epitome of promoting ignorance. Dumb!
•••
Through the years it was one total satisfaction seeing our people buying newspapers to read the latest events both at home and elsewhere. Imagine if we had silently promoted ignorance. That would be dumb, too, right? Relish the idea of deliberative discussions on “things that matter.”
•••
A friend suggested we demand air service for all the islands. Well, the airline industry is a business in itself. No profit, no can buy fuel, no can fly! Eh, this is reality check pal. The upside is that it prevents the guys and gals from taking junkets! Or are they moaning and groaning to take to the skies even with a huge deficit and major reduction in revenues? Dumb!
•••
My marshland reed doctor recommended that I eat more salt to neutralize my blood sugar. Well, not only is the suggestion woefully simplistic but dumb too! Said he, “If it doesn’t work there’s the dialysis to cleanse toxins from your blood bruddah!” This is even dumber!

A physically huge guy of some 380 pounds whispered he’s running for a seat on the hill. He snores when he breathes and smiles when flies make quick stops on his nostrils and mouth. He can’t even chase flies and he expects me to believe he could literally run up to Capital Hill? Where did I see the shirt with the inscription: “I’m with stupid!” so I buy him one? Dumb!
