5.4 magnitude quake hits near Rota

The CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management, Office of the Governor, would like to inform the general public that at 10:30am yesterday morning, Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2014, there was a preliminary earthquake with magnitude of 5.4 magnitude on the Richter scale located at latitude 13.917 degrees north, 144.947 degrees east, this is about 24 miles southwest of Rota at a depth of 62.9 miles (101.2km).

No tsunami watch or warning is in effect for the entire CNMI as of this time.

The CNMI Homeland Security and Emergency Management will be monitoring this earthquake and will be issuing bulletins as they become available. Continue to monitor the official bulletins that will be available through local media sources and NOAA weather radio broadcast on 162.5 megahertz, or call the CNMI EOC dispatch center at 237-8000 or 211, and for the Northern Islands to contact the CNMI EOC dispatch center at high frequency single side band radio on frequency 5.205.0.
