Day care providers complete NMC training

The Northern Marianas College’s Community Development Institute recently presented certificates of competence to a total of 28 day care center providers who successfully completed the “Infant & Toddler Care Training” and the “Disabilities Awareness Training” facilitated by CDI and the Department of Community & Cultural Affairs – Child Care Development Fund.

Under the Infant and Toddler Care Training, 14 day care providers received 70 hours of training that focused on five core modules: Social-Emotional Growth & Socialization, Learning & Development, Health & Safety Considerations for Infant/Toddler Care, Culture, Family, & Providers, and Group Care.

The 14 providers who received certificates at the end of the training were Elvira Beljamin, Petelyn Camacho, Rowena Cervantes, Gaudencia Corilla, Elena Dariguez, Lea Rosemarie Gaspar, Anastacia Ledesma Japson, Maricel Javier, Rhona Martinez, Ma. Cristina Pecson, Mayla Santos, Soledad Santos, Aura Aleli Simbulan, and Rebecca Estoya Urbano.

Under the Disabilities Awareness Training, 14 other day care center providers completed 15 hours of professional development activities where students learned topics such as: What is Special Education; Strategies on Special Needs; Reaching out through Agencies and Organizations in the Disabilities Field; Individual Education Plan & the Process; and IEP versus the 504 Plan.

The participants who successfully completed the training are Romeo Silvano, Joanne Ordona, Julieta Baroro, Anita Delgado, Jocelyn Hornilla, Emma Belarde, Yeldez Javier, Jocelyn Eusebio, Me Ae Kim, Diomedes Lenon, Junnie Masga, Milagros Merjilla, Riza Pasaylo, and Hedeliza Posadas.

Both trainings were funded by CCDF, which is a federally funded program whose ongoing quality child care initiative is to support CCDF providers, teachers, and caregivers to increase their knowledge and skills in the care of young children. By supporting professional development of these individuals, improved outcomes for young children are realized.

NMC’s Community Development Institute is a program that offers specialized courses and customized trainings in order to meet both the professional development and personal enrichment needs of the community.
