Yonsei Academy to hold piano concert Sunday

Yonsei Academy will be holding “The 6th Piano Concert with Music History” this Sunday, Feb. 9, at Pacific Islands Club’s Charley’s Cabaret.
The concert starts at 5pm and is broken down into seven sections—The Baroque Period (1600-1750), The Classical Period (1750-1815), Popular Music and Hymns, The Special Stage, The Romantic Period (1815-1910), Nationalism and Modernity (1910-present), and Senior Stage.
Brian Youn will kick things off with Pomp and Circumstance March No. 1 by Sir Edward Elgar.
Alex Park will play Pachelbel’s Canon by Johann Pachelbel under The Baroque Period, while James Dewitt will perform Ferdinand Beyer’s Beyer No. 27 for The Classical Period.
Ayung Lee will tickle the ivories with her version of Ten Little Indians under Popular Music and Hymns, while the Manta Band Trombone Ensemble will entertain everyone in attendance with Stars and Stripes Forever for The Special Stage.
The Romantic Period will have Ziin Noh playing Franz Liszt’s La Campanella, while Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s Flight of the Bumblebee will be interpreted by Kevin Rhee under The Nationalism and Modernity.
The lone number under Senior Stage will have Lica Ishida playing her version of La Campanella.
Yonsei Academy is a school of piano, violin, and cello. Its teacher, Young Mi Han, graduated from Gyeonsang National University in Korea with a bachelor’s degree in music education. Prior to coming to Saipan, she taught music in high school in Korea for 13 years.
The music school has taken part in several off-island music competitions, including Tumon Bay Music Festival in Guam, Young Artist Competition in Guam, and the CNMI Got Talent.
Tickets for “The 6th Piano Concert with Music History” cost $5 per person.
