Bench warrant out vs ex-firefighter

Superior Court Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho has issued a bench warrant against former firefighter Combiano I. Taisakan, who failed to appear at a status conference in connection with his 2010 criminal conviction.
In an order yesterday, Camacho set a $215 bail for Taisakan.
Taisakan failed to appear at a status conference on Wednesday at 9am. Assistant attorney general Heather Barcinas appeared for the government at the conference.
Probation officer Oscar Torres asked the court to revoke Taisakan’s probation for non-compliance with his probation conditions. The former firefighter’s probation was set to expire yesterday.
In his status report, Torres disclosed that Taisakan made a total payment of $285 as of Dec. 18, 2013, and has a remaining balance of $215 for the $500 fine.
Otherwise, Torres said, Taisakan fully complied with the other conditions of his three-year probation.
In March 2010, a Superior Court jury found Taisakan guilty of theft for selling a boat engine that belonged to the Northern Islands Mayor’s Office to another firefighter and his wife for $300 between June 6 and August 2007. The couple made two separate payments to Taisakan totaling $140.
Associate Judge David A. Wiseman sentenced Taisakan to three days in prison and placed him on three years of supervised probation. The judge barred him from being employed by the CNMI government for the duration of his probation.
In October 2012, Saipan Tribune learned that the Department of Public Safety rehired Taisakan and assigned him to administration and logistics.
DPS Commissioner James C. Deleon Guerrero told Saipan Tribune yesterday that Taisakan is no longer employed with DPS. Deleon Guerrero was not the commissioner when Taisakan was rehired.
Probation officer Torres disclosed that Taisakan has been unemployed since May 30, 2013.
