Teack tops SGA Ace of Aces
Jung Eun Teack won the Saipan Golfers Association’s 2013 Ace of Aces Tournament held last Dec. 14 and 15 at the Kingfisher Golf Links and Marianas Country Club, respectively.
Teack shot a 73 at the Kingfisher Golf Links in Day 1 of the season-ending championship before carding a 69 in Day 2 to finish with a weekend best 142 net score.
Coming in second to Teack in the Ace of Aces was former Superior Court presiding judge Ed Manibusan who had a two-day net total of 146 after shooting a 74 and 72 in Day 1 and Day 2 of the tournament, respectively.
Steve Balakrishna rounded out the Top 3 with his 148 net built around a 73 on Saturday and a 75 on Sunday.
Juan L. Babauta and Rick Kautz complete the Top 5 with their net 153 and 157, respectively. The former shot a 75 and 78, while the latter fired an 81 and 76.
Tied for sixth place were Greg Sablan Jr. and John “Nonni” Cruz. Both had a total net score of 159. The scorecard tiebreaker method was used placing Sablan fifth and Cruz sixth. Sablan’s net scores were 83 and 76. While Cruz’s were 76 and 83.
Teack and company was feted during SGA’s season-ending Ace of Aces Tournament awards banquet held last Jan. 26 at Pacific Islands Club’s Charley’s Cabaret.
Other winners recognized at the awards banquet were closest-to-the-pin winners at Kingfisher Golf Links: Steve Balakrishna (hole No. 6); John “Nonni” Cruz (hole No. 12); and Juan L. Babauta (hole No. 15).
Longest drives winners at the same venue were also recognizes and they were Ed Manibusan (hole No. 7) and Rick Kautz (hole No. 11).
The closest-to-the-pin winners at Marianas Country Club were Balakrishna (hole No. 6), Kautz (hole No. 12), and James Whang (hole No. 16), while longest drives at the same venue were Babauta (hole No. 7) and Manibusan (hole No. 11).
A slideshow presentation was also made from SGA tournaments and banquets of yesteryears. Statistics from 2013 was also shared and contributors acknowledged. SGA extends it heartfelt appreciation to all who have in one way or another contributed to club’s success.
Meanwhile, SGA’s January 2014 Ace of the Month Tournament has been rescheduled to Feb. 2, at 10am at the Laolao Bay Golf & Resort west course. Showtime is 9am. (Saipan Tribune)
