Bordallo statement on the State of the Union
“Tonight, President Obama outlined his Administration’s priorities to grow our economy, strengthen the middle class, and ensure that all Americans have an equal opportunity to get ahead. The President emphasized the need for Congress to take action on a number of policy priorities, including immigration reform, income inequality, infrastructure investments, and college affordability. However, the President stated that he will not wait for congressional action to make progress on these issues, and will take executive action where he can due to gridlock in Congress.
“Congress must also do its part to address the many challenges that continue to face our country. Although we have made progress in turning our economy around and improving the quality of life for millions of Americans, much work remains. Unemployment [in] Guam is nearly twice the national average, and I continue to work to find economic opportunities for the people of Guam. The President’s continued support for the Asia-Pacific rebalance will help provide job opportunities as well as strengthen regional prosperity and stability. I will also continue to work with officials to open up additional tourism opportunities under the Guam-CNMI visa waiver program. I look forward to working with President Obama and my colleagues in Congress to move these issues forward.” (PR)
