3 teams keep unbeaten records

Three squads remained undefeated in the 2013-2014 Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization Girls Volleyball League.
Marianas High School and Saipan International School earned similar 3-0 records after bagging two more wins, while Mount Carmel School improved to a flawless 2-0 mark after downing Kagman High School’s junior varsity team last Tuesday night at the Marianas High School Gymnasium.
The Lady Knights, who won their season debut against Saipan Southern High School last Jan. 14, swept Kagman JV in three sets, 25-16, 21-13, 15-6, to take the No. 2 spot in the nine-team field, pending results of yesterday’s matches.
The Lady Dolphins and Lady Geckos shared the lead after winning their separate games last Jan. 16 and last Tuesday. MHS was pitted against Kagman’s varsity team last Jan. 16 and notched the outright win after prevailing in the first two sets, 25-12, 25-14. The Lady Dolphins completed the shutout victory with a 15-5 triumph in the third set and then gained their third win in as many games after beating MHS JV last Tuesday, 25-11, 25-20, 15-11.
The varsity team of SIS, on the other hand, met two fellow varsity squads, winning over Southern first before outclassing Kagman. The Lady Geckos dominated the Lady Rays, 25-8, 25-9, 15-5. Against Kagman, SIS eked out a tough 25-23 win in the opening set before getting the automatic win with a 25-17 victory in the second. The Lady Geckos then secured the sweep with a 15-5 thrashing of the Lady Ayuyus in the third set.
In other results, defending champion Grace Christian Academy recovered from a debut loss to MHS Varsity after topping MHS JV last Jan. 16, 25-11, 21-18, 15-4.
In the all-JV battle, SIS edged Kagman. The Lady Geckos nabbed the automatic win, 25-20, 25-19, while the Lady Ayuyus avoided a shutout after stealing a 15-12 victory in the second set. SIS JV then missed a 2-0 start when it bowed to Southern JV last Tuesday. The Geckos worked out a 26-24 win over Southern in the opening set, while the latter also pulled off a cliffhanger in the second, 26-24. In the deciding third set, the Manta Rays mustered enough strength to sting their foes, 15-13.
