The Guam National Guard’s newest multi-million dollar facility will be officially opened with a ribbon cutting ceremony today, Jan. 22, at 1:30pm, at the Barrigada Readiness Center.

The contract for the $19 million facility was awarded by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command to Marianas to Bulltrack Watts, LLC, in September 2011 for the design and construction of the project. Construction on the Combined Support Maintenance Shop began in April 2012.

This new building is the first state-of-the-art maintenance shop for the Guam National Guard. This facility provides field and sustainment maintenance on wheeled tactical vehicles; towed vehicles; and engineering communications, electronics, small arms and other government-owned equipment.

The CSMS main building has a total area of 34,851 gross square feet and includes three maintenance bays, six storage bays, several private and open office areas, supply and tool storage/dispensing rooms, lubrication storage, classroom, a small library for resource materials, toilets, showers and a break room. Oversized mechanical and electrical rooms provide sufficient area for future equipment needed for future expansion of the facility. It also includes a 500 GSF Controlled Waste Handling building, 500 GSF Flammable Material Facility, battery storage, and military vehicle parking outside of the main facility.

Additionally, there is a standby generator, washrack and a loading ramp.

In its entire 33-year’s existence, the Guam National Guard has never had a fully functional maintenance facility to adequately support its mission requirements. Today, we finally open the doors to a fully functional and state-of-the-art maintenance shop.

The CSMS is the second Guam National Guard facility to meet the U.S. Green Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-New Construction (LEED-NC) Silver rating.
