The Northern Marianas National Paddle Sport Federation will be having tryouts for the national outrigger canoe teams to represent the CNMI in the 2014 Micronsian Games set for July in Pohnpei in the Federated States of Micronesia.

Open tryouts for the men and women will be held Mondays and Wednesdays from 5pm to 6:30pm and Saturdays from 8am to 9:30am.

Paddlers meet at Kilili Beach across from the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium. All interested paddlers who meet the Mirco Games participant criteria are invited to try out.

The last day for tryouts is Feb. 1. Paddlers registering after the Feb. 1 cutoff will not be considered for the national teams. Tryouts will be supervised by head coaches Justin Andrews and Dana Okano using methods agreed upon by NMNPSF and the head coach.

Objective criteria will be used to the extent possible. Ultimate selection will be based on athletic performance versus other candidates in timed events, strength events, and endurance events. Other criteria will include experience, leadership, attitude, and attendance. (PR)
