The CNMI Department of Labor has renewed its relationship with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division in strengthening and coordinating efforts that will increase compliance of the Fair Labor Standards Act, Family Medical Leave Act, Service Contract Act, Davis Bacon Act, and other related acts as applicable. Both CNMI DOL and USDOL Wage and Hour have the responsibility to conduct a broad investigation or individual conciliations, obtain payment of back wages and to assess penalties.

In this renewed relationship, CNMI DOL’s Enforcement, Hearing and Employment Services Divisions personnel to include Rota and Tinian DOL personnel will be undergoing training on Jan. 16, 2014, on Saipan.

CNMI DOL sees this renewed relationship as healthy and opportune as the CNMI DOL has begun improving and increasing labor enforcement activities that will promote good business practice and compliance of applicable labor laws, federal and state, within the CNMI. (Office of the Governor)
