As part of its promotions for the holiday season, the Marianas Visitors Authority gave away over 400 Saipan-da backpacks to visiting children arriving at Francisco C. Ada International Airport on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

All passengers arriving on Dec. 24 and 25, 2013, were greeted by a life-size Saipan-da and two Chamorritas. Children ages 11 and younger received backpacks of the character, which is well-known in Japan and loved by children from all Asian countries.

“The annual holiday backpack giveaway is busy two days for Saipan-da, but he’s always happiest making children smile,” said MVA marketing manager Bruce Bateman. “By that account, this year’s giveaway was a grand success.”
