Navy releases identity of drowning victim

SANTA RITA, Guam—Petty Officer 3rd Class Rjay Domondon, assigned to Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25, has been identified as the service member who drowned while spear fishing near Agat Jan. 5.
The sailor’s next of kin was notified at approximately 11:35am, Jan. 6 Guam time.
Domondon’s body was found early Jan. 6 and transported to Naval Hospital Guam. Guam Fire Department, U.S. Coast Guard Sector Guam and Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 25 conducted search-and-rescue missions on Jan. 5-6.
“This young man was a dedicated, personable and highly motivated Sailor,” said Cmdr. Gregory Leland, HSC-25 commanding officer. “Always willing to go the extra step to assist others, he earned the immediate respect of every sailor he came in contact with. He was a courageous young man who embodied living life to its fullest and enjoyed working out, playing sports, and traveling.”
Domondon, from Waterbury, Conn., joined the Navy in July 2012. Prior to reporting to the helicopter squadron on Guam in August 2013 as an aviation electronics technician, he was assigned to Recruit Training Command Great Lakes, Naval Air Technical Training Center Pensacola and Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training Unit North Island. His awards include the National Defense Service Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal.
