Suarez tops adult singing competition
Veronica Suarez topped the adult singing competition of the Paskong Pinoy 2013 held late Saturday night at the Garapan Central Park.
Suarez scored 89 percent from the judges to beat runner-up Estrella Aguon and third placer Joseph Fernandez for the singing championship. Aguon and Fernandez scored 82 percent and 74 percent, respectively.
The United Filipino Organization gave the $100 top prize to Suarez whose rendition of Faithfully wowed the audience. Aguon’s version of Inseparable netted her the $75 runner-up purse, while Fernandez’s Pasko na Sinta Ko earned him $50.
Judges for the adult singing competition were Lei Hicaro of Docomo Pacific, Magic 100.3FM DJ Rovic Caberos, and Rolly Capayas of the High Pitch Band.
In the earlier singing contest for kids, 7-year-old Lawrence Tubera received the $100 first place prize after besting two other contestants. Leonard Manuel Alla, 12, got $75 cash as second placer, while Donato Santiago Jr., 8, got $50 for third place.
UFO president Annamae Adaza was happy with the turnout for the Paskong Pinoy 2013.
“We are really glad that we held the event at the Garapan Central Park. Even though it rained, the show had no interruptions and it was the first time that the man’amko watched our event. They we’re there since 4pm and they said they will go after their performance but they ended up staying until 9pm. It only shows that they enjoyed the show and waited for some raffle drawings.”
Adaza also thanked UFO officials, volunteers, and the Paskong Pinoy 2013 organizing committee for the success of the event.
“We are all happy that we are able to go on with the event with very limited time for preparations. As always it’s a group effort and to all UFO officers, members, volunteers, our event chairwoman Nel Atalig, our program coordinator Minda Castro, DJ RV, all performers, vendors, donors, and sponsors—without all of them the event will not be possible.”
Adaza also thanked major sponsor Docomo Pacific as well as LBC Mabuhay and the Tan Siu Lin Foundation for continuing to support the event.
