Rota youth opens online photography business

Rota High School graduate Robert Mendiola first showed an interest in technology and photography 11 years ago as an elementary school student at the southern island. Two years later, in 8th grade, Robert bought his first point-and-shoot camera, kindling a passion for taking photos of almost anything that caught his attention.
Mendiola, now 19 years old, has transformed that passion into a fledgling business, an online photography studio called “Robert’s Photography,” which can be accessed at www.robstersphotography.com.
Mendiola, who still resides on Rota, is currently studying online to earn his associate degree in Computer Information Systems at Penn Foster College.
“I started photography as hobby when I was in middle school and I was using point-and-shoot cameras. And then on the summer before my senior year in high school I bought a DSLR camera, and then after my 18th birthday I started my photography business.”
From taking photos of Rota’s natural beauty as a child to organizing graduation picture takings for his high school, Mendiola challenged himself after graduating from high school to create his own photography.
Mendiola, who graduated earlier this year in June from Dr. Rita H. Inos Jr./Sr. High School, shared that all of his professional photography equipment such as lights, cameras, and tripods were bought with money donated by family members and from his summer job at the Rota Airport.
Mendiola uses a Canon EOS 600D and specializes in lifestyle and wedding photography.
People interested in his photography services can find photo packages ranging from $8 wallet size photos to $175 for a one-hour photo session. This young Rota resident has already had 80 customers purchase photo packages from his online website.
When asked what prompted him to create his business, he said: “I am inspired by people. I’m inspired by photos that tell stories, real stories. As a lifestyle photographer, my goal is to capture a person’s story. My mission is to give them a session as unique as they are by capturing them in their element.”
