Three juveniles, Saimon arrested
Police arrested three male juveniles who allegedly stole a purse containing cash and other items from a woman who was watching her son play tennis at the American Memorial Park tennis court Saturday night.
In the other theft case, police arrested Monday Maybeleen Saimon, a 30-year-old woman who has been wanted for more than a week for allegedly stealing a flat screen TV from a house in Chalan Kanoa.
The three juveniles were brought to the Juvenile Detention Facility where they are being detained, according to Department of Public Safety spokesman Travis Hurst.
Hurst said the suspects confessed to spending some of the money to buy items, play games at an Internet café, and loan some of the cash to their friends.
Hurst said the victim’s personal property and the remaining cash were returned to her that same evening.
Investigation showed that police were dispatched to the American Memorial Park tennis court on Saturday at 7:35pm for a reported theft incident.
Police officer Pete Seman of the DPS Tourism Oriented Police Station learned that three boys were suspected of stealing a purse from a woman who in the area with her family to watch her son’s tennis match.
The purse contained more than $900 in cash, a mobile cellular phone, credit cards, and other personal items that totaled to over $1,000.
Hurst said the victim had left her purse on the bleachers around 5:30pm to take photos of her son. When she returned to her seat shortly, her purse was already missing. The victim’s friends began searching the area and talked to the other parents who were there.
One witness claimed to have seen three boys in the tennis court who later headed south along Middle Road by the Commonwealth Health Center.
Later that evening, detectives from the Commonwealth Bureau of Investigation and TOPS officers received a tip that the same group of boys was seen by the Upper Miha Housing in Garapan.
The officers canvassed the Upper Miha area, resulting in the identification and apprehension of the three suspects.
Officers managed to recover the victim’s purse, which was dumped along Middle Road by CHC, along with her wallet, which was thrown on top of the roof of an abandoned building in Lower Miha.
The victim’s cellular phone, which was torn into two pieces, was dumped in a grassy area behind Shirley’s Restaurant in Garapan.
Hurst said the remainder of the victim’s money, although accounted for, has yet to be recovered.
In Saimon’s case, police served her with an arrest warrant in Chalan Kanoa Monday at 6:10pm for theft. A $5,000 cash bail was initially imposed for her temporary release.
Saimon was set to appear before Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman yesterday afternoon for her initial hearing.
Police detective Catherine B. Pangelinan stated in her report that Saimon stole a 32-inch LED flat screen TV from her mother’s house in Chalan Kanoa last Oct. 9.
Pangelinan said that Saimon’s mother had just rented the TV from Dial-Rent-To-Own on Sept. 18 and that she still needs 20 more months to pay it off.
Pangelinan said that Saimon admitted during police interview that she took the TV and asked her friend to pawn it for $120 at a pawnshop in Chalan Kanoa.
Pangelinan said her follow-up investigation on Nov. 8 showed that the TV was still at the pawnshop.
