Trial of man accused of sexually abusing a minor in 2009 begins

A Superior Court jury trial will begin today in the case against Alfredo E. Reyes, a 51-year-old man accused of sexually abusing a then-16-year-old girl thrice in 2009.
Jury selection is expected to start at 9am. Associate Judge Joseph N. Camacho will preside.
The Office of the Attorney General charged Reyes with sexual abuse of a minor in the first degree, sexual abuse of a minor in the second degree, and another offense.
Assistant attorney general Barbara Cepeda is prosecuting the case. Assistant public defenders Matthew Meyer and Michael Sato are counsels for Reyes.
Police arrested Reyes in July.
Police detective Therese S. Kintoki stated in her report that police started the investigation on June 10 after a social worker at the Domestic Violence Intervention Center reported a sexual assault case.
Kintoki said the alleged victim told her mother about the sexual abuse only on June 9.
Kintoki said preliminary investigation showed that Reyes allegedly first sexually abused the victim inside his car at Lao Lao Beach sometime in 2009.
Reyes allegedly asked the girl to admit that she was having sex with another person.
Each time the girl denied it, the defendant would allegedly slap her in the face. Reyes then allegedly stated that he was going to check if she was still a virgin and proceeded to sexually abuse her.
A few months later in 2009, Reyes again allegedly sexually abused her inside his car at Coral Ocean Point beach. The girl said she was crying and kept pushing him away.
The last incident allegedly happened two to three months later in the jungle area by the Hawaiian Rock Company where the defendant sexually abused her.
