Norman Tenorio tops Turkey Shoot, December Ace
Norman Tenorio had a double victory or sorts last Dec. 1 after winning the Saipan Golfers Association’s Turkey Shot and December Ace of the Month at the Marianas Country Club.
Tenorio shot a net score of 70 to beat a field of 23 SGA members and two guest golfers. He fired a gross of 90 built around a 46 in the front and a 44 in the back nine. Minus his 20 handicap, Tenorio had the score to beat in the twin tournaments.
Rick Katz finished in second place, one shot higher than Tenorio after submitting a score of 71. The 5-handicapper fired identical 38s in the front and back nine for a 76 gross.
Veteran Nick Sablan capped the Top 3 with his 74 net. The many time CNMI national golfer carded the day’s lowest gross of 74 after taming the greens and fairways with a 38 in the front nine and a 40 in the back for a gross of 78. Sablan sports a 4 handicap.
In celebration of Thanksgiving, SGA awarded the Top 7 finishers and four closest to the pin winners with a turkey each.
Steve Balakrishna (4th), James Nelson (5th), Larry Deleon Guerrero (6th), and Ray Dela Cruz (7th.) all got turkeys for finishing in the aforementioned Top 7.
Aside from topping the December Ace, Tenorio also won the closest to the pin competition in hole No. 16. Frank Castro was without peer in hole No. 6, while Juan L. Babura and Ray San Nicolas won in holes No. 8 and 12, respectively.
The longest drive winners, meanwhile, are Kautz in hole No. 9 and Balakrishna in hole No. 18.
