Defendant in GIG riot pleads guilty, gets 30-day sentence

One of three men facing charges for a brawl outside the GIG Discotheque in Garapan in December 2011 has pleaded guilty and was slapped with a 30-day prison term.
Kenneth B. Salas pleaded guilty Friday to riot, assault and battery, and two counts of disturbing the peace as part of a plea deal with the government.
Superior Court Associate Judge Kenneth L. Govendo sentenced Salas to two and a half years in prison, all suspended except for 30 days.
After completing his sentence, Salas will be placed on probation for two years. He was ordered to pay a $200 fine, $200 in probation fees, and $100 in court costs. He was required to perform 100 hours of community service.
Throughout the duration of his probation, he is barred from coming within 250 feet of GIG and is not allowed to consume any alcoholic beverages.
The Office of the Attorney General charged Salas with assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, riot, and two counts of disturbing the peace.
As part of the plea deal, the remaining charge of assault with a dangerous weapon was dropped.
The incident occurred on Dec. 17, 2011, when Salas, Perry Tudela, and Zachary King punched and threw glass beer bottles at Keith K. Nabors and Juanis B. King.
The charges against Tudela and Zachary King are pending in court.
According to court papers, the bar fight broke out during a party after a mixed martial arts event.
