Chacha for Yolanda on Tinian a success
The United Filipinos Association on Tinian held its Chacha for Yolanda fundraiser last Nov. 22 at JC Café.
The event was very successful with Filipinos on Tinian, local residents, and even U.S. Marines taking part in the fundraiser.
Sen. Frank Cruz (R-Tinian) and Attorney General Joey San Nicolas each donated $50 in support of the association’s initiative to rally donations for victims of supertyphoon Yolanda (Haiyan), which struck the central Philippines last Nov. 8 and leaving more than 5,000 people dead.
Even the business sector pitched in as Emily Dicang-Kwon donated $700 that was coursed through UniFil Tinian president Rodney S. Cabarles.
Cabarles is appealing to other Tinian business owners for donations as well. Check donations are payable to UniFil Tinian. All cash donations will be deposited to ABS-CBN Foundation’s Sagip Kapamilya account.
Chacha for Yolanda also had a King & Queen of the Night competition. The winners were the U.S. Marines’ Carmelo Caputa and Marilou Dysoco of Tinian Dynasty Hotel and Casino. Each received a $25 gift certificate from JC Café.
The Cha Cha dance winners, meanwhile, were Darling Ayuyu and Lovelina Saralu and each received a gift basket courtesy of Susan’s Creations.
On Nov. 30, the Tinian Marianas Lions Club along with National Honor Society and prospective LEOs will hold a walk fundraiser at Tachogna Beach.
The event coincides with the 5K fun run by the U.S. Marines. In observance of Diabetes Awareness Month, Tinian Marianas Lions Club will also give free blood pressure check and free blood sugar check to the participants of the two events.
