Employees of the Aging Office and trainees under the Senior Community Employment Service Program or the Title V Program took time off work and celebrated the Labor Day weekend with lots of food and island music on Sunday.
Over 20 employees and trainees, along with their families and friends, feasted on chicken kelaguen, fresh tuna sashimi, grilled seafood and meat, pancit, cucumber coco, and titiyas as local music blasted on speakers at the Carolinian Utt in Garapan.
With the long weekend due to the Labor Day commemoration yesterday, Aging director Rose Mondala said they thought of organizing a lunch get-together for all employees and trainees.
Instead of holding it on Labor Day, Mondala said they decided to hold it on Sunday so they could rest before they go back to work today.
According to Mondala, it was a potluck lunch as each of them contributed to the food and drinks.
“We want to do this at least twice a year, on Labor Day weekend and on Thanksgiving,” said the director.
The Aging Office used to have a bigger celebration of the holiday during the term of former governor Juan N. Babauta. “But the government doesn’t have money, so we just try to celebrate it any way we can by ourselves,” said Mondala.
