Saipan chamber polls members on Saipan casino, Article 12 abolition

Saipan Chamber of Commerce members are being polled on their views on legalizing casino gambling on Saipan and on the abolition of the CNMI Constitution’s land alienation restriction under Article 12.
Members are asked to turn in their responses by Wednesday morning, in time for the noontime general membership meeting that day.
The two questions, sent through an email link to members last week, are easily answerable by “yes” or “no.”
“Are you in favor of legalizing casino gambling on the island of Saipan, CNMI?” goes the first question.
The second question is, “Are you in favor of abolishing Article XII of the CNMI Constitution, allowing for the sale of privately owned property?”
Richard Pierce, executive director of the Chamber, said they reminded members again yesterday to turn in their responses to the survey.
The results of the survey will help the Chamber formulate its position statement on the controversial issue of casino gambling on Saipan, and the repeal of Article 12.
The Chamber is the largest business organization in the CNMI with some 150 members.
As of Saturday, only about 25 percent of members have turned in their responses.
