Lopsided victory for Filcag Rollers in UFO Docomo Cup

Filcag Rollers toyed around Samahang Laguna last Saturday at the TSL Sports Complex, 102-69, en route to their second straight win in the UFO Inter-Organization Youth Basketball Docomo Pacific Cup 2011.
The bout was over right after the first round, as Filcag threw their killer punches early for a commanding 29-12 advantage.
Filcag Rollers had six players finishing in double figures to hand Samahang Laguna its third loss in as many games. Filcag Rollers improved to a 2-1 record to share the second spot with the AFP/Jets.
Josh Kiyoshi top-scored for Filcag Rollers with his 19 points, while Luizi Reyes chipped in 18. Wens Namelo and Brandon Aulerio added 12 apiece, while Leo Galarse and Don Brennan contributed 10 each.
Carl Aldan paced Samahang Laguna with 17 markers, while his three other teammates also scored in double figures, but these baskets came at the time when the match was already in the bag for Filcag.
Samahang Laguna has most newcomers in the youth league, while Filcag Rollers are boasted off seasoned U20 players.
MDX 88, SIP 75
In the second game, MDX stepped on the gas in the fourth quarter for an 88-75 win over Samahang Ilokano at Pangasinense.
The victory put MDX back in the solo lead with its 3-1 record. SIP absorbed its second loss in a row after winning its debut over the Jets.
The MDX-SIP tiff was still close after the third with the former ahead by only seven, 62-55.
In the fourth, MDX saved the best for last, as Jared Ano and Matt Duenas combined for 15 of the team’s 26 markers in the final canto to lift their team to the 13-point win.
Duenas and Ano finished with 22 points each after recovering from a poor shooting in the opening frame.
Duenas was held to a free throw and Ano to three points in the first period, which had SIP on top, 18-12. John Cenir sizzled for 10 points for SIP to take early control of the match.
Duenas and Ano started picking up the scoring for MDX in the second canto, but Mike Saturno answered with 10 points to keep SIP in front at the break, 41-35.
At the start of the second half, Duenas and Ano kept pouring it on for MDX and they finally grabbed the lead entering the final canto.
In the payoff period, Duenas and Ano drew help from five other teammates to keep the lead and the win, while SIP cagers struggled with only Niko Salem making more than one field goal in the fourth.
