A man who beat up and stabbed his common-law wife with a knife at their residence in Kannat Tabla was sentenced last week to 11 months in prison without possibility of parole.
Jeffrey T. Deleon Guerrero was slapped with a five-year prison sentence, all suspended except for 11 months, for aggravated assault and battery.
The 36-year-old Deleon Guerrero is expected to complete his prison term on June 26, 2012, after which he will be placed on probation for five years.
Superior Court associate judge Kenneth L. Govendo ordered Deleon Guerrero to pay a $500 fine, $100 court costs and probation fees and required to write a letter of apology to the victim and undergo anger management counseling and alcohol/substance abuse treatment at the Community Guidance Center.
Deleon Guerrero pleaded guilty as part of a plea deal.
According to a police report, the victim tried to hit Deleon Guerrero with a stick July 27. He retaliated by beating her up and stabbing her on the right wrist with a knife. Medics treated her but she refused to be brought to the hospital, police said.
Detective Peter A. Aldan stated in his report that, according to the victim, she was frustrated because all Deleon Guerrero does is sleep and eat.
In April 2001, a jury found Deleon Guerrero not guilty of murder and all other charges in connection with the slaying of Chinese businessman Zhou Rong in March 2000 at the Yellow House Massage Parlor in San Jose.
