Superior Court associate judge Perry B. Inos has dismissed the attempted kidnapping charge filed against a Commonwealth Ports Authority firefighter, who was recently arrested for allegedly assaulting his former girlfriend in the parking lot of Aquarius Hotel in Chalan Kanoa.

At a preliminary hearing on Thursday, Inos did not find probable cause to charge Giovanni Camacho Sablan with attempted kidnapping. Inos, however, found probable cause to charge him with two counts of assault and battery and two counts of disturbing the peace.

Inos allowed Sablan to post a $1,000 cash bail and required him to provide a qualified third-party custodian for his temporary release.

Sablan, a mixed martial arts fighter, is also known as “The Fighter” and “Palaksi or “Palaxi.” He is a firefighter at CPA’s Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting Unit.

Preliminary investigation showed that on Friday night of Aug. 20, the victim was driving on her way home at 1:35am when a pickup truck pulled up next to her on the outer southbound lane near the Mount Carmel Cathedral.

The truck’s window was rolled down and the victim noticed it was Sablan, who was shouting at her to pull over. Sablan allegedly kept swerving his truck back and forth in front of her so she decided to proceed to the parking lot of Aquarius Hotel for safety.

Sablan jumped into the victim’s passenger seat, and shouted at her for not answering his text messages and phone calls. The victim ran toward the lobby of the hotel, but Sablan chased her and allegedly grabbed her from behind. The victim screamed for help.

Sablan allegedly threw the victim three times onto her car.

Police said the victim suffered bruises on the left and right shoulders, and abrasions on the left forearm.
