Saipan Mayor Donald G. Flores is appealing to the Senate to provide his office enough funding to allow him to retain his 48 full-time employees.

Flores said he would like to retain all 48 FTEs at the Mayor’s Office to serve the needs of his constituents.

“I need all 48 FTEs because we’re already short of staff as it is,” he told Saipan Tribune after he signed Wednesday the proclamation designating September as Prostate Cancer Awareness Month.

In his proposed 2012 budget submission, Flores asked for $1,245.024 for personnel costs, which cover the salaries of 48 FTEs.

The governor’s proposed budget, however, only approved 38 FTEs and a budget of $756,088 for personnel costs.

According to Flores, these FTEs are particularly needed for the implementation of the dog control program and the delivery of other public services to the community.

“I know that the government is tight with money. But all I’m asking is for the Senate to at least maintain the status quo on our budget,” said the mayor.

The Senate is expected to act this week on the $102-million budget passed by the House of Representatives last week.
