Hundreds of friends and colleagues gathered at Kristo Rai Church in Garapan Tuesday night for the last day of rosary and public viewing of former United Filipino Organization president Ramon Awit.
Awit, who is also a former officer of MDX Amateur Radio Club and the Visayas – Mindanao Association, suffered a massive stroke at past 5pm on Aug. 20 at Aqua Resort Club where he worked as a restaurant manager.
Staff at the Commonwealth Health Center pronounced Awit dead on Aug. 22 at 3:50pm or 20 minutes after the life support machine that sustained him was unplugged. He was 43.
Awit is survived by his wife Annamae Adaza and children Riggz, Ronn, and Ramhae.
Tuesday’s rosary was followed by a Mass and the public viewing of Awit’s remains, with close friends and associates queuing in long lines for a last glimpse of an individual who is best remembered and well- loved for his “soft heart,” “fatherly advices,” “civic-mindedness,” and “remarkable sense of humor.”
Awit’s remains were flown at midnight of Aug. 31 via Delta Air Lines to Manila, Philippines. His wife and children are scheduled to fly to Manila tomorrow, Sept. 4.
Awit will be laid to rest at the Garden of Memories in Pateros, Manila on Sept. 8.
