Garrison’s return to SSHS dim after vice principal post scrapped

The chances of Craig Garrison returning to Saipan Southern High School this school year appears to be dim following the elimination of the school’s vice principal position that he had applied for.
Saipan Tribune learned about this development Wednesday and was confirmed by Garrison, a former vice principal and principal of Saipan Southern High before becoming the principal at Marianas High School last year.
He confirmed that he was informed by PSS of the unavailability of the position because it was “inadvertently overlooked.”
“According to your employment application you indicated that you wanted to be placed on the eligibility list for Saipan Southern High School. However, we will not be able to establish an eligibility list for that school since the job vacancy announcement was inadvertently overlooked by our office and there is no vacancy for the school vice principal position at Saipan Southern High School at the moment,” states the PSS notice.
However, PSS informed Garrison that there are vacancies available for San Vicente Elementary School, Garapan Elementary School, Hopwood Jr. High School, and Marianas High School.
Garrison said he’s fine with that and believes he will do a great job at any school he may be assigned to, although he is disappointed in the decision to eliminate the position at SSHS.
Garrison, citing “irreconcilable differences” with Education Commissioner Rita Sablan, resigned from his position as MHS principal in July. He later rescinded his resignation but was not allowed to return to his post due to new appointments made by the commissioner. He then applied for the vice principal position at SSHS when it was announced.
