Local families are needed to host Japanese students who will be coming from Japan in November.

Executive secretary Vinycia Seman of the Saipan Mayor’s Office said a group of 90 students will be on island from Nov. 9 to 14 through the Saipan Business Language Institute student cultural exchange program.

The students, Seman said, will learn and experience island lifestyle, culture, customs, and language and will engage in different activities, including visits to the Aging Center, American Memorial Park Museum, and Mañagaha island.

“Hosting an exchange student will be a rewarding and educational experience for all family members. Because of technology, local families are able to keep in better contact with the child they hosted and continue to build a closer relationship,” said Seman.

She said host families will pick up the students at 4pm on Nov. 11. The students will spend the entire day of Nov. 12 with their host families. The families will then drop off the students back to the hotel on Nov. 13 for a farewell barbecue dinner.

According to Seman, SBLI will give a compensation of $140 to each family that will host two students to express their appreciation to the host family’s hospitality.

Seman said interested families need to fill out the Host Family Application Form, which is available at the Saipan Mayor’s Office. For more information, call 234-6208 or email vseman.mos@gmail.com.
