Manuel conquers Marianas Idol

His rendition of Beyonce’s Listen earned Leonard Manuel the first place in the recently held Marianas Idol competition, which was among the highlights of the Northern Marianas College Charter Day festivities last May 4.
Manuel outshone five other aspiring singers in the quest to win $150 cash, an IT&E phone, two T-shirts, one 7-Up gift certificate from Pacific Trading Co., and a $20 gift certificate from Rock Steady shop.
Coming in at second place was Donato Santiago Jr. who won $100 cash, a prize package and a T-shirt from PTC, and a $20 gift certificate from Rock Steady for his version of Greatest Love of All.
Winning third place for her rendition of Stand Up for Love was Julie Yamada, who took home $50 cash, and a prize package and T-shirt from PTC.
Other contestants were Akeiko Dela Cruz who sang It Will Rain, Isabelle Evangelista who sang No One, and Bert Magallano who sang Cry Me A River.
The contestants were judged based on their vocal quality, vocal expression, stage presence, entertainment value, and overall performance.
The panel of judges consisted of IT&E’s Brad Ruszala, and NMC’s Leo Pangelinan and Ian Romolor.
Frankie Eliptico, Charter Day committee chair, said the Marianas Idol competition has always been a crowd-drawing event and is one of the highlights of the annual Charter Day celebration.
“We are really proud of all the contestants who participated. They all performed impressively and they all wowed the audience with their talents,” he said.
Eliptico also acknowledged all their corporate sponsors for donating prizes to the Marianas Idol winners.
