The Senate Committee on Executive Appointments and Government Investigation recommended yesterday the confirmation of Charles M. Calvo as board member of the Civil Service Commission.

The nomination of Calvo is expected to be approved by the full Senate at its next session next week, according to the commission’s executive director, Andrew Orsini.

“They [senators] understand the situation and they need to act quickly,” he said, adding that the commission hasn’t been able to approve policies, much less hear cases, because of the lack of board members.

Calvo is a longtime staff of the Office of Personnel Management.

Orsini hopes that Gov. Benigno R. Fitial would soon nominate a fifth member to the board so that the commission can fully function.

If Calvo’s nomination is approved, he will join current board members Felix R. Fitial, Eric Plinske, and Rita Kakkun.

Fitial is serving as acting chairman following the resignation of erstwhile chair Dan Nielsen.

Like the three current members of the board, Calvo will be representing Saipan.
