Three men who allegedly robbed a man at knifepoint outside Town House in Chalan Kanoa early Sunday morning were soon arrested after the victim chased them and called police.
Police said that Shane Ada, the first one arrested shortly after the robbery, confessed his participation in the crime and identified his companions as Michael Jordan Cabrera, 22, and Franklin Jess Atalig, 20.
Police served Cabrera with the arrest warrant yesterday in Dandan and Atalig on Monday in As Lito. They were charged with robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, assault and battery, and disturbing the peace.
Cabrera and Atalig were taken to the Superior Court for a bail hearing yesterday and on Tuesday. There was no information about Ada’s bail hearing.
Bail was set at $50,000 cash each for both Cabrera and Atalig. Preliminary hearing will be on Nov. 3 at 9am.
The victim told police that he had parked his vehicle outside Town House at 1:15am when the two suspects got into his car, one in the front passenger seat and the other in the backseat. The one in the backseat choked him while the second pointed the knife at his chest. The suspect holding the knife took the victim’s wallet that contained $107.
The two then got off, ran to a car that was parked by the beachside of Aquarius Beach Tower, and drove off.
The victim followed the car-a silver sedan with license plate ADD 861-while at the same time reporting their location to a police dispatcher. He then saw the car drop off the two suspects by Ador Restaurant in San Antonio.
Around that time, police officer Stanley Patris was directed to intercept two vehicles heading south on Beach Road in Chalan Piao. One vehicle was reportedly transporting the robbery suspects, while the other vehicle-a white 2007 Yaris-was being drive by the victim, a Chinese national.
Patris spotted the two vehicles in Koblerville and pulled them over by the former Classic Design Store along Martinez Road. Ada was arrested and the car was impounded.
Detective Catherine B. Pangelinan stated in her report that while going through the vehicle, a crime scene technician found a long kitchen knife with a black handle between the front passenger seat and the center console of Ada’s car. When shown the knife, the victim identified it as the weapon used in the robbery.
Pangelinan said that Ada confessed Monday to planning the robbery with Cabrera and Atalig.
When shown a photo line up, Pangelinan said that the victim identified Cabrera and Atalig as the two who robbed him.
The detective said the victim stated that it was Cabrera who was armed with the knife and took his wallet, while Atalig was the one who choked him from behind.
