NMC names new Distance Learning Education director

The Northern Marianas College recently named Amanda Allen as the new director of the Office of Distance Learning Education, an office under Academic Programs and Services.
“My primary objective as director is to oversee online, hybrid and web-enhanced course development and instruction,” said Allen. “At the same time, I also provide training to faculty members on how to utilize these distance learning technologies and resources available to support teaching and student learning.”
Allen will also be working with NMC faculty members and partners in distance learning to build, develop, and deliver online learning that will employ various distance learning delivery strategies.
“Our goal is to develop up to half of all courses online, while not comprising 50 percent or more of a program, degree, or certificate,” said Allen. “We are also currently working on offering fully online degree and certificate programs.”
Prior to becoming director, Allen worked as the NMC Distance Learning Education program coordinator under the Office of Information Technology beginning in May 2010. Allen configured, managed, and trained online faculty in the college’s course management system MOODLE and also assisted with their distance learning network project.
Allen has a bachelor’s degree with concentrations Social Studies and U.S. History from Oakland City University in Indiana, where she also earned her master’s degree in Science Management. In addition, she has received training in MOODLE and other Learning Management Systems, engaged in Web 2.0 trainings, and Learning Technology webinars and conferences.
