Commonwealth Health Center officials and employees received yesterday donated items from Hawaii that partnered with island-based KKMP Foundation to bring the much-needed assistance to the public hospital.

Led by Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. chief executive officer Juan N. Babauta, the group was presented a total of 100 boxes of assorted medical supplies and materials by KKMP Foundation founder Rosemond Santos, who partnered with Hawaii State Sen. Glenn Wakai in bringing the senator’s latest donations to the CNMI.

Wakai is a Democratic member of the Hawaii State Senate and represented District 15 since 2011. For many years, the lawmaker has been extending assistance to the Commonwealth by way of sharing donated items received by his office in Hawaii.

Santos revealed that since her days as a representative, the Hawaii legislator has been partnering with her office. The newly established KKMP Foundation is the non-profit arm of the KKMP Radio Station, which Santos owns and operates.

Babauta and some medical staffers went yesterday to the hospital’s Medical Supplies Office in Lower Base to personally receive the latest donation. Among these items were various medicines, linens, and others. Also donated were toys for children at the hospital’s pediatric unit. Some items were books and school materials for the CNMI Public School System.

“With the financial situation that we’re in, this is much appreciated help,” Babauta said, adding that every little help CHC gets is vital in the survival of the hospital.

CHC is still in state of state of emergency.

Santos, for her part, recognized the valuable assistance of the foundation’s partners, Saipan Shipping and Saipan Stevedore, for waiving the fees and other charges in shipping the items.
