The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is conducting five public meetings in June on Saipan, Tinian, Rota and Guam to gather information from the public on a draft management report for 82 species of corals being petitioned for listing under the Endangered Species Act in 2009.

These informal meetings are an opportunity for the public to comment on the draft management report to ensure all voices have an opportunity to be heard.

The draft management report is an evaluation of the management activities affecting the 82 coral species; including regulatory and conservation efforts.

Meetings are being held on:
* Saipan on Monday, June 11, from 6pm to 9pm, at the Multipurpose Center on Beach Road in Susupe.
* Tinian on Tuesday, June 12, from 6pm to 9pm, at the Fleming Hotel.
* Rota on Thursday, June 14, from 6pm to 9pm, at the Mayor’s Office.
* Guam on Monday, June 18, from 6pm to 9pm, at the Hilton Hotel
* Guam on Wednesday, June 20, from 6pm to 9pm, at the Santa Rita Community Center.

The 82 species of coral being petitioned for listing as threatened or endangered under the Endangered Species Act are reef-building species. Seven occur in the Caribbean and 75 occur in the Indo-Pacific. The 75 Indo-Pacific reef-building species occur in a total of 68 countries, including the United States and its Pacific island states and territories of Hawaii, Guam, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and American Samoa.
