The Northern Yankees sliced through both the Ol’Aces (2-0) and the Masters (1-4) in the latest Saipan Major League Baseball Association matchups at the Francisco “Tan Ko” Palacios Ballfield.

The Yanks brushed off the Masters, 10-0, on Monday and sacked the Ol’Aces, 10-0, way last May 16 before bad weather caused a halt to the schedule.

Capping its fifth win in six games the Yankees moved into first place in the standings just ahead of Tan Holdings’ second ranked Brewers (3-1) with the defending champion St. Michael’s Medical Response-Angels (2-1), IT&E-Fielders (2-2), and the D-9ers (0-4) representing the rest of the field.

The season continues tonight on Tan Ko Field at 6:30pm with the Brewers (3-1) taking on the D-9ers.

Northern Yankees star pitcher Joshua Jones put on a nice little one-hit display on the mound through seven innings in his final appearance before heading off play to start his college career with the Colby Community College Trojans in Colby, Kansas.

At the plate, the Yankees took a swift 5-0 lead in the bottom of the very first inning off four hits.

Ben Jones led off with a single and was driven home by Chris Camacho after stealing second and third base.

Jared Camacho later reached on a fielder’s choice and was brought in along with Chris Camacho by a base rip by Joshua Jones.

He scored soon after off an error, while Navan Falig was escorted home by T.J. Agulto before the Masters could escape the inning.

Masters hurler Paul Camacho held the Yanks in the second frame, but they managed to add a run in the third from an RBI double by Agulto that scored Falig.

The league leaders fell silent for the next two innings before bringing around two more runs to close the sixth off a pair of back to back RBI singles by Chris Camacho and Jonathan Tenorio, scoring David Camacho Jr. and Dave Jones.

The Masters just missed its best chance to spark a rally earlier in top half of the fifth inning when they managed a couple base runners off a walk and a base smash by Mabel Ngirengmeles and were denied access to first base by Joshua Jones in the what turned out to be the final two innings.

The Yankees needed only four at bats to work around the two runs needed for the early decision.

Chad Castro drew a one-out walk and was doubled home by Agulto, after which David Camacho Jr. stepped in a delivered the walk off single for the win.

Winning pitcher Joshua Jones gave up just one hit and three walks with eight strikeouts through seven innings of work.

Agulto batted 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a run. Chris Camacho went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and a run.

Yankees’ Joshua Jones dealt a two-hit shutout and sat down 17 batters in the group’s May 16 matchup against Ol’Aces.

Yankees’ Gary Cruz broke the ice with an RBI single in the second inning, bringing home John Salas and the northerners posted up four more runs in the fourth inning off five hits.

Salas bagged an RBI single, scoring Jerome Delos Santos before being brought to the plate again by Cruz. Jared Camacho then delivered him home before Ben Jones cleaned it all up with a triple.

The Yankees then added its final run in the fifth inning from a base rip by Jared Camacho, bringing Salas to the dish for the third time in the game.

Ol’Aces pitcher Juan Iguel tamed the Yanks in the last three innings, but the group could not figure out a way to the plate on Joshua Jones’ watch.

Ol’Aces’ Jess Iguel made it to the path four times in the game and was stranded in scoring position three times, twice at third base.

Other than that the Ol’Aces managed only three other base runners, two of which were also left in scoring position. The Yanks also picked off three other runners in the path.

Yankees’ Salas batted 2-for-2 at the plate for an RBI, three runs, and two bases on balls. Cruz swung 3-for-4 for two RBIs and a run.

Winning pitcher Joshua Jones went all nine and faced 33 batters, giving up two hits and five walks with 17 strikeouts.
