CHC makes partial $231.8K payment to CUC
The Commonwealth Healthcare Corp. paid a fraction of its outstanding obligation to the Commonwealth Utilities Corp. this month.
Charles Warren, CUC chief financial officer, confirmed Tuesday that they received payment from the corporation in the amount of $231,844.33 on May 8. The disbursement cuts down by almost 9 percent the corporation’s past due obligations, which is now at $2.48 million.
Saipan Tribune learned that CUC used the money to buy fuel.
“CUC recognizes the financial challenges currently being faced by CHC and is looking forward to the resolution of those challenges so that payments of CHC’s obligations to CUC can be made on a more timely and regular basis,” Warren said via email.
For his part, CUC executive director Abe Malae said they appreciate the corporation’s partial payment.
“I am confident that the grant eligible accounts at CHC are ready for processing given the time and effort expended by the Public Health management staff,” said Malae.
He added that the corporation now has more flexibility with its power supply after technicians of both agencies secured a backup supply from the hospital’s generator.
