Gov. Benigno R. Fitial signed yesterday two public laws that promote road safety and designate management of public land in Sadog Tasi, along with two local laws that appropriate a total of $55,000 for Rota programs and services.

Fitial signed a bill that vests the Department of Lands and Natural Resources with the management and disposition of a certain public land in Sadog Tasi on Saipan for the development of a public park.

Rep. Ray Tebuteb’s (R-Saipan) House Bill 17-120 is now Public Law 17-72.

The governor also signed yesterday another Tebuteb bill, which requires vehicles hauling trailers or similar cargo to have red rear lights connected to the trailers in sequence to the tail lights of the operating vehicle. This will help prevent accidents, most especially in the early morning and evening hours.

Tebuteb’s HB 17-132 is now P.L. 17-73.

Fitial also signed a local bill appropriating $30,000 in poker machine license fees for 11 different programs and services, including for patients on dialysis and the terminally ill, the Rota Municipal Scholarship Foundation, retroactive salary payments, the Rota Liaison Office and the Rota Mayor’s Office expenses.

The measure, House Local Bill 17-77 Substitute 1, is now Rota Local Law 17-19. It is authored by Rep. Teresita Santos (Ind-Rota).

The governor also signed Santos’s HLB 17-79 Substitute 1 into RLL 17-20. This bill appropriates $25,000 in poker machine license fees for three programs and activities. They include the Rota Little League Association, the Rota Municipal Scholarship Foundation and retroactive salary payments.
