The Saipan Higher Educational Financial Assistance office has already begun distributing some 110 checks amounting to $193,600 to its scholars for the spring semester.

Administrator Henry Hofschneider said yesterday that they began distributing the checks to on island scholars since Thursday while mailing out the checks for off-island students this week.

Hofschneider said that these checks cover the first two lists of scholars that they submitted for check issuance. The lists were submitted in February and April.

“Disbursement is a bit faster this term compared to last term, which saw a long delay. For this semester, we were expecting to issue the checks later but we did it ahead of time,” Hofschneider told Saipan Tribune.

He noted that the early disbursement of scholarship funds from the Department of Finance and its Treasury Division allowed them to issue the checks earlier than expected.

“We thank the lieutenant governor, Finance, and the Treasury for disbursing the funds early. It’s always good to say thank you to them,” he added.

Hofschneider said they are pleased to disburse “most” of the checks before semester ends.

He said there is a third list, composed of about 15 checks amounting to $31,000, which was submitted two weeks ago or “very late” since they had to do a second review.
