Dickinsons, Salalilas highlight SRCR April races
The Dickinson duo of Jude and Butter as well as Paul Salalila and greenhorn James Salalila all shined in the Saipan Radio Control Racers monthly April races held last Sunday at the club track in As Lito.
The group also welcomed new father-and-son members Bernard and Jacob Malonzo into the mix.
Jude Dickinson triumphed in the A-Main 1/10 electric stock class short course and Butter Dickinson was victorious in the B-Main category, while Rodney Catalla and James Salalila came away as the winners in the Open-Main and Young Gun races, respectively.
Jude Dickinson came in as the top qualifier in the A-Main preliminaries and his Traxxas Slash car edged out Paul Salalila’s after 13 laps by less than four-tenths of a second for a photo finish at 6:15:59.
Paul Salalila (6:15:94) led eight laps to Jude Dickinson’s five, while Catalla’s HPI Blitz settled for third place in 6:19:16 ahead of Leo Gatus, Jude Boy, and Jojo Sarach.; Paul Salalila’s 26.19 also marked the fastest lap time.
It was all Paul Salalila in the Open-Class short course finals as his Kyosho Ultima SC held strong for 12 of 14 laps against Catalla. However, Jude Dickinson’s Team LOSI XXX-SCT was awarded second place.
Although coming up a little short, Catalla still took the Open-Main pole for the month and managed to lead the other two laps.
Gatus finished two laps off the lead, while Saracho had a rough run and had to bow out after just three laps.
In addition, James Salalila’s Kyosho Ultima SC dominated the Young Gun feature and swept both top qualifier and first place honors.
He beat out Adam Salalila’s Team Associated SC10 and third placer Jacob Malonzo’s TraXXas Slash.
Then in the B-Main event, Butter Dickinson outran top qualifier Lenmark Diaz for the checkered flag and Franz Decena rounded out the third spot. All three drivers wielded TraXXas Slash trucks.
There are over 20 active SRCR members, and growing, which regularly take part in practices every Sunday in the As Lito track.
The group tries to hold a daylong monthly event in their four racing categories. The public is welcome to check out the track and learn more about the sport/hobby.
