Renewable energy to power UOG School of Education
Photovoltaic panels are being installed on the roof of the School of Education at the University of Guam. The Center for Island Sustainability is overseeing the installation, which is expected to be completed last April 13.
“The power system will use 52 pieces of 235 watt solar modules with two inverters,” said Center for Island Sustainability Energy Technician Antonio Endaya. “Once installation is complete, about 10 percent of the building’s power will be supplied through renewable energy.”
Wireless access to the system will be available so that CIS Energy Technicians can monitor its power production and performance.
“This is the third building on campus and the first major facility to use photovoltaics to reduce energy consumption,” said UOG President Robert Underwood. “We started with photovoltaics on the roof of Center for Island Sustainability, which is meant to model an average home on Guam, and another small structure located on Dean’s Circle. The School of Education will be the first large building on campus to use renewable sources of energy. We began as a teacher training college back in 1952, and so it is fitting that the School of Education is the first major facility to embrace these technologies. We look forward to installing additional renewables in the future.” (UOG)
