The Tinian Mayor’s Office is gearing up for the anticipated arrival of MS Hanseatic, a five-star expedition ship scheduled to visit Tinian on April 27.

Operated by German cruise operator Hapag-Lloyd Cruises, MS Hanseatic is expected to bring in “well-traveled, sophisticated guests interested in life-long learning” from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland.

PDI will serve as the ship’s land agent while Saipan Shipping is the shipping agent.

“We are most excited about this opportunity to greet and entertain guests from so far away,” said Tinian and Aguiguan Mayor Ramon M. Dela Cruz in a letter to PDI director Gordon Marciano.

In line with the visit, Dela Cruz wants to bring the ship’s passengers ashore at Kammer Beach, which the mayor described as “an excellent small boat landing site.”

Dela Cruz also instructed Tinian Fiesta 2012 committee chair Joe Dela Cruz to issue fiesta booth permits and Tinian Commerce resident director Jose Kiyoshi to issue fiesta vendor licenses to allow local vendors to set up shop in time for MS Hanseatic’s arrival.

“It will be a fiesta setting for the guests to experience,” Marciano told Saipan Tribune, adding that MS Hanseatic is looking forward to visit Tinian once again and include the island in its maiden voyage for 2012.

The mayor also wants to invite the ship’s purser to purchase local fruits and vegetables such as papaya, watermelon, cherry tomatoes, and green beans for use aboard the ship.

Dela Cruz noted that MS Hanseatic passengers can also avail of a historical tour of Tinian to be conducted by Deborah Fleming and Don Farrell.

As an expedition cruise, MS Hanseatic aims to show guests remote areas in the world that are worth seeing. Being a small ship, its specialty is “to anchor in places that other ships cannot reach.”

Passengers of MS Hanseatic were informed that Tinian is “one of the larger islands” of the Northern Mariana Islands which are “a few kilometers west of the Mariana Trench” and boasts of “white sand beaches, dense jungle, and turquoise blue waters.”
