The Kagman High School Ayuyus finally broke into the win column with a 4-0 victory over the Marianas High School Dolphins in Tuesday’s Marianas Interscholastic Sports Organization boys soccer match held on Hopwood Junior High School field.

KHS fell to the Dolphins, 2-3, in the season opener played last April 2 and then experienced déjà vu against Saipan Southern High School’s Manta Rays on April 3.

The season continues this Friday at 3:45pm with MHS taking on SSHS on the Oleai Sports Complez field at the Oleai Sports Complex.

It was all Ayuyus on Tuesday as KHS’ Mark King netted a goal in the third minute of action and hit the Dolphins again in the eighth minute for a swift 2-0 lead.

Josh Muna’s shot then sailed true in the 19th minute and fellow Ayuyu Angelo Guevarra capped off the opening frame with a fourth goal.

MHS was shorthanded coming into the match, but fortunately KHS agreed to play the first half in a 7-on-7 format.

Seeing the writing on the wall, MHS conceded at intermission, but the teams finished the game in an exhibition setting and threw in some junior varsity players to keep it interesting.

The Manta Rays built a 2-1 lead in the first half from Yong Joon Jeon in the eighth minute and Jake Lee in the 15th minute of the opening half.

KHS’ Mark King obliged with a goal in the 22nd minute to make it a, 2-1, count in favor of SSHS at the break.

After the early slip ups, the Ayuyus buckled down on defense for the grit of the match and battled its way back late in the second half.

KHS’ Jack Tanopan scored just over 10 minutes into the second frame in the 46th minute to lock it at 2-all, but SSHS’ Lee played the hero and bagged the clutch go ahead score in the 66th minute.

MHS’ John Taisacan found the back of the net in the 34th minute of the first half just before the buzzer to give the Dolphins a 1-0 edge at halftime.

His teammate Lin Zhi Peng later fired a long strike from outside the goalie box in the 47th minute for a brief 2-0 lead, but KHS’ Jack Tanopan answered with a quick hit in the 50th minute.

MHS went on the attack in the ensuing kickoff and Peng keenly positioned himself at the opposing net and contrived a nice spin move for another goal this time from point blank range.

KHS’ Josh Muna scored a save face goal just two minutes later, but the Ayuyus ran out of time.
