NMC students to conduct opinion survey on Saipan casino issue

Students of Northern Marianas College instructor Sam McPhetres’s Current Issues in the CNMI course are inviting CNMI voters to participate in a public opinion survey about the legalization of a casino industry in Saipan on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011.
The aim of the survey is to provide data on how many individuals support or oppose the legalization of a casino industry on the island. The results from the survey, however, will be non-binding. This means that these results will not affect any prospective law or policy regarding the issue. Although the results will be non-binding, it can assist the leaders of the CNMI in deciding whether to propose any law or policy regarding casinos.
Those registered to vote in the CNMI will be eligible to participate in this survey.
Voters who are unable to take the survey on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, can take the survey earlier on Wednesday, Nov. 2, and Thursday, Nov. 3, 2011, from 8am to 12pm at the NMC As Terlaje campus in Room D-1.
Those who wish to take the survey on Friday, Nov. 4, 2011, (8am – 5pm) will take the survey at a designated location, which is assigned based on village of residence and voting precinct.
