Employees of the Commonwealth Utilities Corporation and Mobil Oil Mariana Islands Inc. recently attended a training that enhances their capabilities to respond to oil spill disasters.

The training was conducted by Daniel Beyer, sales manager for the Larsen Marine Oil Recovery Corp., who facilitated the training of 20 technical and professional staff members of Mobil and CUC. Beyer provided both a classroom technical overview at the power plant and a field demonstration covering operations and maintenance of the oil spill response equipment.

“The staff is well versed in safety and operation of various equipment. Safety was the primary issue and that was demonstrated well,” said Beyer, adding that the training demonstrates CUC’s commitment to protecting the island’s beautiful coastlines.

According to Beyer, being prepared for any possible circumstances and having the right equipment is a good start to a complete response package. He said future training will be added to enhance the capabilities of CUC to properly respond to emergencies.
