The Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture and the 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival Committee launched yesterday its “Be A Part” flagship marketing strategy for this year’s premier arts event.

“Be A Part” aims to engage the whole community in a wider effort to celebrate the festival in the Commonwealth.

The “P” in “Be A Part” encompasses the three main goals of the Commonwealth Council for Arts and Culture: promotion, preservation, and perpetuation of the rich art and cultural heritage of the CNMI.

Promotion deals with the showcasing of the ingenuity of the islands’ artists who use different mediums and forms in expressing themselves, with their works of art being displayed at the Flame Tree Arts Festival and the council’s major exhibits annually.

Preservation involves continuous undertakings to protect and safeguard works of art that help create the CNMI’s unique and distinctive cultural identity as a community. It embraces the collaborative efforts of the council with other government agencies and local organizations that share similar insights.

Both promotion and preservation bring about the last “P,” perpetuation, which allows for future generations to gain knowledge about and have appreciation for their roots through the arts.

Council executive director Angel S. Hocog said the three “P’s” capture and summarize everything about the Flame Tree Arts Festival and will appear in various promotional materials about the event such as souvenir programs, shirts, banners, and ads.

“The ‘Be A Part’ flagship marketing strategy hopes to send across the important message that the festival committee seeks out the support of each and everyone in the community to make the promotion, preservation and perpetuation of local arts and culture a resounding success this year and beyond,” he said.

“It is critical that we establish among all of us in the community a multitude of advocates who can collectively work in stimulating and furthering our artistic consciousness. Together, let us celebrate arts and ‘Be A Part’ of the 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival,” added Hocog.

The 31st Annual Flame Tree Arts Festival will be held on April 20 to 22 at the Civic Center Park in Susupe. For more information about the “Be A Part” strategy or the event itself, visit the Council’s office next to the post office on Capital Hill or call 322-9982 or 83.
