IT&E unveils newly donated playground in Garapan
IT&E, a leading telecommunications company in the CNMI, unveiled Tuesday its latest donation to the island community: the Carolinian Affairs Office Utt Playground in Garapan.
Chief executive officer Ricky Delgado Jr. led other company executives in yesterday’s ribbon cutting ceremony.
Gov. Benigno R. Fitial and other government officials, IT&E employees, and other guests were in attendance at the event.
In his remarks, Delgado said that the playground will serve as a place where families and other community members can congregate and enjoy spending time together. He said IT&E employees themselves contributed their time to ensure the completion of the playground project.
“This is our way of giving back to the community. …I hope that your kids and grandkids can all come here and enjoy a nice day by the beach,” added Delgado.
Fitial said he likes playgrounds and joked about how he himself enjoyed playing at the Garapan playground.
“This is a very ideal playground because it’s a place where everyone would want to visit,” said Fitial. “I want to thank IT&E on behalf of our people in the community. We appreciate your donation.”
The $30,000 playground project features slides, a climbing wall, and monkey bars in jungle hues.
The Garapan playground is the second playground equipment donated by IT&E on Saipan and the third in the Marianas. Last October, IT&E donated the playground at Pakpak Beach Park in San Antonio. Two months later, it donated another at the Justice Children’s Park in Umatac, Guam.
IT&E’s next goal is to replace the playground equipment at Paupau Beach, according to marketing coordinator Brad Ruszala.
“There’s one there now that’s in a state of disrepair,” said Ruszala, adding that IT&E is also thinking of replacing the lighting fixtures of at least 10 basketball courts on island.
IT&E acknowledged several individuals and groups that made the Garapan playground possible, including ITS, Owen Corp., Coastal Resources Management, Faustino Camacho, Ray Tenorio, and House Speaker Eli Cabrera’s office.
