Ironic
At a gas service station a sign reads “Conserve Energy.” It is ironic that one would actually go against the grain of free enterprise principle in that to the service station conserving energy is the least of its worries. This reverse marketing is actually affecting the solvency of CUC, but does that mean that the management officials of this public corporation have good reason to blame the unexpected effect of energy conservation on their revenue stream as an uncontrollable factor? We are not interested in their story telling, we want them to focus on the root cause of the problem. Like the Retirement Fund, it has to cut cost. For CUC, it has to cut salaries across the board; there is no other outlet than this drastic measure. And time is not in their favor either, because people are beginning to cook with firewood and implementing survival skills like the good old days. So, what is CUC planning to do about this so-called compromise of positivism or phenomenalism? All thoughts would point to a hybrid compromise as the CNMI begins to deal with the death spiral effects of the lagging economy. The bottom line is we are paying good bucks to the management officials of CUC to solve problems, so what are they going to do about it?
